To follow with Hari Seldon's post about the media attacks on MySpace and the rest of the internet is something that should be front and center in the minds of parents and the like.
Hari's question is MySpace responsible?? To a point yes and to a another point, no. MySpace I am sure was not intended to create internet stalkers and others who are sexually deviant. The part where MySpace has failed was with moderation. Where are the owners of this site at when there was this "breakdown" of the site? When it boils down to it... It is the site owners responsibility to police, if you will, the actions held on their respective sites. The site owners responsiblity to report any behavior or activiity that is inappropriate.
Who wants to be a member of MySpace? Not me! I don't want to be affiliated by any means with these weirdos across the world. This is a generalization, yes, but a good one indeed. You never hear of a good story about MySpace. But when do you ever hear of good stories about anything? We all fail to assure the positive along with the negative. We as people tend to be negative regarding recognition.
The internet is a breeding ground for every kind of offender out there. Not only can predators prey on your children in person, they can prey on them on-line in the comfort of their own homes. And really no child or adult is safe... Adults are equally at risk alongside children. There are gullible adults willing to fall for stupid tactics that usually end up in rape.
The point to be had here is MySpace is not the only place this is happening... It's happening everywhere!! Recently in the news there has been two men of Homeland Security have been arrested. These are the very same men "trying" to protect our citizens and our borders and maintain the integrity of our Country. Well they failed miserably. This point brings up that no matter where you are or where you work you potentially are working or breathing the same air as someone who wants to prey on your loved ones.
We need to be proactive with our children and naive adults and educate them about these bad men or women trying to hand out virtual candy.
