Someone asked me the other day, why I set up this post? What does the term "liminal" mean? The simple answer is---"transition." But as with all things, it is a little more complex. Right now this nation is a precipice, a moment in history to either to embrace the opportunity for the next step in our civil evolution and go beyond our fear, or to retreat and be stuck into darkness. Essentially, this is the moment, where we are seeing history at the "threshold" of discovery, where choices seem to be obscure by emotionalism, and where technology is bringing clarity to our physical world.
One example of this obfuscation can be witnessed in the posting by one of our panelists, whether to incite, or simply irrational, brings the discussion in focus of what kind of people do we want to be? Are we the kind people that disseminate fear, intolerance, and ignorance? Or, are we something more, beyond our base emotions. Are we a nation of greatness, with broad shoulders that can handle not just the easy celebratory moments---but the darkest moments of the hearts? Can we accept the ugliest of the world, in fact, embrace as a part of our nature? Or do we cut ourselves in half? Trying to shield ourselves in reality and hide in the emotionality of religiosity.
In the posting below, you see the metaphor of two types: the confusion of fiction as fact and allegory as literalism. The panelist seems to think that by spewing hate, misinformation, hasty generalizations that they are convincing us that their perspective is valid. All they have done is proven that the irrationality of their discourse and the inanity of their of intolerance. You may ask, why allow such venom and obvious ignorance to be posted? Simply to hide it, to censor it, does not allow the opportunity to learn, to reject, and ignore such childlike behavior. We must always shine the light on such destructive and emotional attitudes.
To understand that such emotions are grounded in fear that fear makes one small that fear blinds oneself with ignorance that fear closes opportunities; and, fear destroys the spirit and our relation with the Universe. Understanding this, the allowance of this panelist is primary, because to obstruct it, allows it to fester in darkness and the opportunity to mushroom as well as sow the seeds of distrust, deceit, and self delusion. To shine the light on such myopic viewpoints gives us the ability to properly discern our role with our own spirituality as humans, as a nation, and as a community citizen of the world.
One final point to answer to reply to directly: all of these areconcerns trivial. They are just a book, or movies, after all, and as such mutable. Meaning they are subject to the culture that retransmits them. If you fear that Catholicism is under attack, it is your own rejection of reality and aspect of rationality that you are seeing the mirror of your own rage and instability. As does Islam and as does any religion. And to redress, the return, to advocate for the KKK makes their idealism all the prove the audience needs to turn away your argument of ill conceived notion of validity. After all, it’s just another day in paradise and as a nation living well....
